10 Minute Guided Relaxation
Yoga Nidra

Yoga Nidra or 'Yogic Sleep' is a traditional yogic relaxation technique which focuses on bringing awareness to different parts of the body as you consciously relax them (this is the simplest form of practice). Yoga Nidra helps activate the parasympathetic side of the nervous system assisting in the release of held stress and tension. It can have a deeply healing effect on the body mind complex and if practiced regularly, helps promote feelings of calmness and relaxation.

The practice requires no physical effort. All you have to do is lye down on your bed or on the floor on your yoga mat, relax and receive.

Here are a few tips before you get started:

  • Wear comfortable loose clothing that does not feel restrictive.

  • Find a quiet spot that is warm and comfortable where you will not be disturbed.

  • Power down your devices, leave them in another room, or silence your notifications to avoid distraction.

  •  Set the mood by lighting a candle and dimming the lights to create a peaceful environment.

  • It can be helpful to use the bathroom before you get started, so you can enjoy an uninterrupted session without needing to take breaks.

  • Lye down on your back either on your bed or on the floor on a yoga mat using a bolster under the back of your knees if you have one, and soft support under your head.

  • Ensure you are warm - cover yourself with a blanket.

  • You may find you drift off to sleep. That is okay, but to receive the full benefit of the practice, try your best to stay awake.

  • Do not listen to yoga nidra when you are driving or operating any kind of machinery.

  • Relax, receive and enjoy!
